Best Practices for Organizing Your Image Files Before Creating Nations Photo Lab Products
Preparing your images before uploading them will save time and help you create cleaner, more professional-looking photo products. Please follow these simple steps to stay organized and ensure the highest print quality.
📁 Sort and Organize Your Images
Start by grouping your photos into folders based on events or themes (e.g., “Family Vacation – June 2023” or “Smith Wedding – 2024”). Clear folder names make it easier to locate images during the design process. As you sort, remove duplicates or low-quality shots (such as blurry or overexposed images) to streamline your selection.
🏷️ Rename Files for Easy Reference
Use descriptive filenames to quickly identify each image later (e.g., “2024-05-01_Beach_Sunrise.jpg”). Pick a naming format—such as YYYY-MM-DD_EventName—and use it consistently across all your files.
✅ Select Only the Best Photos
Curate your collection by focusing on high-quality, story-driven images. Look for photos with strong lighting, sharp focus, and good composition, and include a range of shots (wide, close-up, candid, posed) for visual variety.
📐 Check Resolution and Image Size
For the best print results, use images that have a resolution of 300 dpi. Low-resolution files (under 150 dpi) may appear pixelated in print. Ensure the file size matches the product size you plan to order—avoid scaling up small images to larger formats.
🎨 Edit and Enhance Before Uploading
Make light edits to ensure your images look their best:
Adjust the crop and straighten your image.
Apply Color Correction as a part of Nations Photo Lab’s color management guidelines.
If you are editing images on your own, use ICC profiles. Adjust brightness and contrast (without over-editing). Recommended tools: Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, or trusted photo-editing apps.

🔄 Back Up Your Files
Before uploading, create a backup of your organized files. Store copies on an external drive or cloud storage to protect against accidental loss or corruption.
Important: Download your images to your device first, then log in to your Nations Photo Lab account. Go to My Galleries to upload and begin creating your product.
⬆️ Upload and Review
When you upload your images:
Follow the file format and size recommendations listed on the website.
Carefully review the preview of your product before checking out.
-
Save your project so you can revisit or edit it later (found under My Account → Saved Projects).
Important: Depending on the paper types and sizes you choose, your images might need to be printed on different printers. Each printer is calibrated for a specific material and dimensions to ensure the best quality, which could mean your order is routed through multiple production lines. As a result, prints may be finished at slightly different times, preventing them from being produced or packaged in the exact order you uploaded.
By organizing your files and preparing your images ahead of time, you’ll speed up the creation process and ensure that your Nations Photo Lab products look exactly as you envision them.
