Cards are easy to design and are a versatile way of sending an invitation, holiday greeting, thank you, or announcement for any occasion! You can design your custom card from the ground up or use one of our pre-designed templates. We offer several forms of cards ranging from two-sided flat Postcards, Classic Fold, Business Cards, Foil, and so much more for your unique application. Below, you will find a preview of what to expect when customizing, considerations to keep in mind, and a peek into the production process of our cards.
What is the green dotted line on the card template?
The box created by the green dotted line indicates the safe zone. Press cards will always undergo trim in the final sizing process.
Images and text that lie inside the box created by the green dotted line are safe from trimming. Images and text that exceed the green dotted line/safe zone are subject to trimming in the final sizing process.
In the example seen below, I have inserted the Photoshop template into the web-based customization template so you can see the Bleed and Trim areas:
Provided below are two examples of a postcard project and the expected outcome after production is complete:
Good- no white lines will show after trimming. The image occupies the entire bleed/trim zone beyond the green dotted line. Text is safe from trim:
*To avoid having any uneven white borders in the final product, we advise you to have the image occupy the entire bleed/trim area outside the green dotted line. But please ensure the text is completely within the safe zone*
Bad- may contain uneven white borders after the trim process. Text is at risk of being trimmed off:
We try to catch and stop every instance of trim/cropping issues in a final product, but please keep in mind that due to volumes, it is impossible to look at every card project that may experience undesirable trim. In cases where a card's production is stopped due to trim/crop issues, Customer Service will contact you to figure out how you would like to proceed - we can either produce as is or void the order for a reupload with adjustments. On our end, we cannot adjust the card layout, images, or text, as all elements of the design are flattened once the order has been submitted.
How much of the card gets trimmed off in the final sizing process?
A total of 0.25 inches from the length and width of the card are trimmed off, resulting in the desired final size (4x5.5" or 5x7"). As the trim is performed with machinery, we cannot precisely guarantee that all trim will occur from one side. For example, with the Postcard, 0.25 inches may be trimmed from the top only OR 0.125 inches from the top and bottom. The same applies to the width of the card.
Folded Greeting Card and Accordion Fold Card design tip:
To ensure images do not wrap from front to back on the outside of the card, we advise using either the pre-designed themes or the Photo Panel theme:
