GUIDELINES FOR PRINTING SENSITIVE IMAGES
As a family-owned business, Nations Photo Lab would like to provide detailed guidelines about printing certain images. We encourage our customers to print special events in their lives, including but not limited to school portraits, activities, family photos, birthdays, and graduations. We want to celebrate every milestone!
After internal discussions and customer questions and feedback, we have finalized guidelines that we believe meet our ethical and legal standards regarding the printing of images that are sent to us by customers. Nations Photo Lab will not print photographs and other media art depicting violent images, graphic content, sexual behavior, excessively gory or graphic content, bestiality, necrophilia, sexual images involving children, or other prohibited content. We have outlined these guidelines with safety in mind. Through these guidelines, Nations Photo Lab does not want to restrict artistic expression or the photographer's content. Boudoir photography is accepted as long as it fits within our guidelines. Our decisions support a balance of what is in the best interest of our customers while protecting vulnerable persons.
Prohibited Content
Prohibited content is any depiction that is abusive, deceptive, obscene, defamatory, slanderous, offensive, violates or encroaches on the rights of others, depicts or advocates illegal activity, provides a link to any of those items, or is otherwise inappropriate in Nations Photo Lab’s sole discretion.
Graphic Content
Graphic content is any media that depicts death, violence, medical procedures, or serious physical injury in graphic detail. Some examples include, but are not limited to, depictions of:
- violent crimes or accidents;
- physical fights;
- child abuse;
- bodily fluids, including blood, feces, semen, etc.;
- serious physical harm, including visible wounds; and
- abused, severely injured, or mutilated animals.
*Note: exceptions may be made for documentary or educational content.
Sexual Behavior
Sexual behavior is any media that is pornographic or likely to intend to cause sexual arousal. Some examples include, but are not limited to, depictions of:
- full or partial nudity that includes close-ups of genitals, buttocks, or breasts (excluding content related to breastfeeding);
- simulated sexual acts; and
- sexual intercourse or other sexual acts
*Note: exceptions may be made for boudoir, artistic, medical, health, or educational content.
Violent Sexual Conduct
Violent sexual conduct is any media that depicts real or simulated violence in association with sexual acts involving adults or minors. Some examples include, but are not limited to, depictions of:
- rape and other forms of violent sexual assault, or sexual acts that occur without the consent of participants, including a simulated lack of consent; and
- sexualized violence – inflicting physical harm on an individual within an intimate setting.
Bestiality and Necrophilia
Bestiality is any media that depicts sexual acts between a human and an animal. Necrophilia is any media that depicts sexual acts between a living human and a human corpse.
Gratuitous Gore
Gratuitous gore is any media that depicts excessively graphic or gruesome content related to death, violence, or severe physical harm or graphic content that appears intended to be shared for sadistic purposes. Some examples include, but are not limited to, depictions of:
- dismembered or mutilated humans;
- charred or burned human remains;
- exposed internal organs or bones; and
- animal torture or killing.
*Note: exceptions may be made for food preparation and hunting.
Sexual Images Involving Children
Sexual images involving children include any female or person appearing to present as a female who appears to be under age eighteen (18), who is depicted topless, or implied to be topless in any manner whatsoever. This includes any angle of the shot, including front, side, back, or any other possible viewpoint. Images of any minor’s body involved in a sexual act are prohibited regardless of whether breasts or genitalia are visible or not. Any efforts to bypass these restrictions through the use of transparent clothing, blurring, 'black bars,' props, or other means of censoring will be considered invalid and inadequate by reviewing staff and treated as if these measures were not used at all. No images will be printed of children:
- in lingerie or undergarments;
- in any bondage or sadomasochistic scene or manner of dress;
- in any sexual, provocative, or alluring pose, whether clothed or unclothed; or
- with sex toys, condoms, or other sexual props or materials.
Inappropriate Content Ordered by Minors
Nations Photo Lab will void and refund all nude or erotic content submitted by a minor and reserves the right to suspend or cancel the accounts of any minor who deliberately falsifies their age during account creation so that they may submit otherwise prohibited content.
All Decisions are Final
Images that violate these Guidelines will not be printed at Nations Photo Lab's sole discretion. In addition, Nations Photo Lab may be compelled to report the images and the customers’ information to the appropriate law enforcement authorities.
In all cases, Nations Photo Lab reserves the right to amend and interpret these Guidelines. The Company’s decision is final.

What about drawings? I have artist sketches of nudes I want to preserve in case the charcoal (on some of them) get smudged & whatnot. They show genitals but nothing suggestive. Just, you know, sitting there.
Hi Raymond! We have no objection to drawings or photographs showing genitals. So long as there is nothing explicit, you will be just fine to print!
