Question:
What is dye sublimation printing?
Answer:
The dye sublimation printing process is used to create Metal Prints, Metal Ornaments, Metal Keychains, Mugs, Dog Tags, Coasters, and Luggage Tags. These products are printed on the Epson F6200 dye sublimation printers with bulk Ultrachrome DS inks with High Density Black. The High Density Black allows for deep, rich shadow tones. Our metal prints are G7 compliant but due to the sensitive nature of dye sublimation, there is fluctuation in tone. We run visual and readable (P2P) targets weekly to ensure our printers are within our stringant color compliance standards.
The sublimation process involves printing on Johnson Plastics sublimation paper. The printed paper is then taped to the Metal substrate and heat pressed at 400 degrees. The dye from the paper is heated into a gas, which then penetrates the enamel substrate. The printed image cannot be wiped off the metal substrate.
